Champagne. Not my forte, but I’ve definitely come a long way since I first tried Perrier-Jouet champagne. When I got married 11 years ago, I was just starting to appreciate wines and other spirits. I was not an experienced drinker by any means at that point in my life. But, it was definitely a “hobby” I soon fell in love with.
My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Napa. That is when my love affair with wine started and there was no going back. Since then we’ve made Napa/Sonoma/Healdsburg an annual trip and year after year my palate has continued to appreciate the flavors that dance so effortlessly in my mouth. Yes, I just said that. 😉
When we arrived home from our honeymoon we started opening up our wedding gifts. In one box, from my husband’s brother, was a Perrier-Jouet gift set. It was the most beautiful hand painted champagne bottle I ever did see, which included two champagne glasses that also had beautiful hand painted flowers on them. Knowing absolutely nothing about champagne at the time, we set it aside…for a couple of years. Oops. I will tell you right now, if I would have known how good this shit was, I would have been ALL over it that day!
Fast forward those couple of years. We decided to take the Perrier-Jouet champagne with us to a nice restaurant to celebrate my graduation from college. By this time as well, my husband had had a discussion at work with his boss’s wife. She knew much more about champagne than we did and informed him that Perrier-Jouet was a very good champagne. It was indeed. A champagne that will ever have my heart.
For our 11 year anniversary that we just had last week, my husband surprised me with a bottle of Perrier-Jouet. Not only was I smiling at the fact that I couldn’t wait to pop this baby open, but I smiled thinking back at the first time we enjoyed this wine together. It’s not an inexpensive champagne, but in my humble opinion, worth every penny. So next time you have a special occasion, splurge on some Perrier-Jouet, you can thank me later.
