Wine Story #1

Wine stories. We all have them. Some I can share and others I cannot (my girlfriends would kill me)! Some are funny and some I don’t laugh about. Some I’d like to forget ever happened and others are dear memories that I cherish and hold on to.

My love for wine started on my honeymoon back in 2005. We spent the first couple of days in San Francisco and then headed up to Napa. Love at first sight and then love at first taste. It was magical on so many levels. My husband and I decided at the end of that trip we would make Napa/Sonoma a semi annual trip. Well, that didn’t happen…we made it an annual trip. It’s a trip I look forward to every year. It never gets old. Every trip I learn something new, I try something new and I see something new.

A few years after getting married we were in Sonoma for our annual trip and stumbled upon Loxton Cellars. It was spring time so it wasn’t super busy. We walked up to the pouring area and started talking to the fellow behind the counter. Come to find out he was the owner and winemaker, Chris Loxton. So of course we asked about his story and how his winery came about. Other than the actual wine, the wine stories are my second most favorite thing about the Napa/Sonoma valley!

His family is from South Australia and were all grape growers. He came to the states for school and eventually ended up in Napa for good. Click here to visit his website to learn more. It’s a fabulous story and was so fun hearing about it directly from him.

At the end of our conversation, he asked if we were there for a special occasion. We told him we were celebrating an anniversary and asked if he would sign one of our bottles we purchased. He was happy to do so. I picked the Rosé for him to sign because it was my favorite wine I had tried there that day. I’m not sure if he still produces Rosés, online it looks like there is only a Chardonnay and a Viognier-Chardonnay available. But, it is possible that he only has a small production of Rosé and only sells it at the winery. If you get there before me, let me know because it truly was a wonderful Rosé! Perfect for summer sipping.

Just one of my many wine stories, but a special one for sure. It’s been awhile since we’ve had a visit to Loxton…I’m thinking it’s due time to get back there. 😉

Cheers to you and your wine adventures!
