Brunello di Montalcino Anyone?

One of my goals for 2019 is to do more local wine events here in Utah so I was excited when I noticed Veneto, an authentic Italian restaurant, here in Salt Lake City was hosting a wine event focusing on Brunello di Montalcino!

Let me start with the restaurant itself and then I’ll move on to the wine. Owners Marco and Amy Stevanoni make you feel right at home from the moment you step into this quaint space. Not only is the food authentic but you truly feel like you are in a small European bistro surrounded by antique furniture, intricate details and an inviting setting you would expect from this culture. The menu offers year-round classic favorites and seasonal specialties from the Veneto region with most of the ingredients farmed locally.

There is no tipping in Veneto or at VENETO, adding to the relaxed environment of simply enjoying a delicious meal and quite possibly learning something new along the way. Their team is paid a professional salary and then they simply add a small “coperto” (“covered” in Italian) of $4 per guest to each check. Again, allowing their guest to focus on their dining experience instead of worrying about how much to tip at the end of the evening. Any tips above and beyond that are donated to The Danielle Byron Henry Migraine Foundation. Continue reading “Brunello di Montalcino Anyone?”

Bottle Barn-Where Wine Country Buys Wine

Bottle Barn. Where have you been all my life? Located in the heart of Sonoma County, with nearly 30 years’ experience, this is the place to buy high quality, affordable wines in a seamless manner. Conveniently located in the wine country, Bottle Barn has trusted relationships with local producers, big and small, so you know you are getting an exceptional selection with fair prices in mind.

You can now purchase these great wines online! You can shop by the bottle or purchase a themed six pack (with free shipping) ranging from domestic wines to a Spanish exploration, a taste of France, tour of Italy or sparkling wines. Some pretty fun options to choose from. There are also “barnburners” each week so keep an eye out for those deals.

It gets better! As part of the online site, they have created Wine Country Forward where 1% of all purchases will be donated to local organizations. We all know California has been through a great deal of devastation the last couple of years. This is an opportunity to help the Santa Rosa community rebuild and grow stronger and you get something out of it too, wine. 😉

Check them out online. I’m confident you’ll find something to entice your palate. AND, use discount code BROOKE10 to get 10% off your first purchase! You can also follow them on Instagram, @btlbarn. Summer Wines and Pairings

I’m a red wine lover at heart but I am not biased to whites wines, especially in the summer time! There is nothing better than opening up a crisp, zesty white on a hot summer day while relaxing on the patio or poolside with your favorite peeps.

Sharing my top three white wines I consistently open during the summer; Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, and Viognier. Although these are some of my favorites, I am enamored by South African Chenin Blancs and Albariño wines from Portugal and Spain. Continue reading “Summer Wines and Pairings”

Mingling with Mexican Wines

Had a great trip to Puerto Vallarta last weekend and made it a point to try some Mexican wines while there. Continuing to expand that palate of mine. It’s been a lot of fun to get out of my comfort zone…not always the best wines, but an enjoyable experience for sure.

I was pleasantly surprised at a couple of the wines I tried. When I think of Mexico, wine does not come to mind. When I got home, I even tried to see if my wine/liquor store in Utah carried any Mexican wines and unfortunately, they do not. I’ll keep searching.  Continue reading “Mingling with Mexican Wines”
